Plain language, because campaigns run on volunteers and volunteers deserve to know what is being recorded about them.
Privacy
What this service stores
For each campaign: the candidate or committee details, the accounts of people you invite, your sign types and inventory, the districts and zones you define, support tickets you raise, and your settings.
For each sign placement: its latitude and longitude, how many signs are at that spot, the sign type, a photograph if one is taken, notes and condition, the name of the person who placed it and when, and the name of the person who collected it and when.
What it does not touch. TGO SignManager holds no voter file, no voter records, and no voter contact information. It is deliberately separate from any voter database. It also stores no card numbers or bank details — the software cannot charge a card or move money.
Who can see it
Your campaign's own accounts, and no one else. Campaigns are separated inside the database and one campaign cannot see another's signs, volunteers, or districts. Damon Townsend, as the operator, can reach the underlying database for support and maintenance. Nothing is sold, rented, or shared with advertisers, and there are no third-party advertising trackers in the application.
How long it is kept
Placement data is kept for the election cycle it belongs to, and is snapshotted when a cycle is closed out so you keep a record of what happened. If you close your account, records are retained for 30 days and then deleted from the live system, with backups rolling off within 60 days.
Your choices
- Export your placement data at any time.
- Ask for a copy of everything held about you.
- Ask for your account and its records to be deleted.
- Remove a volunteer, which stops any further collection about them.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit, passwords are stored hashed, and the database is not reachable from the internet. Photographs are served under unguessable addresses rather than sequential numbers. If there is ever a breach affecting your data you will be told promptly and plainly.
If you are a volunteer
When you place or collect a sign, this service records where the sign is, when you did it, and your name against that action. If you take a photo of the sign, the photo is stored too.
The location recorded is the sign's, captured at the moment you log it. Because you are standing next to the sign at that moment, that is in practice a record of where you were at that time, and your campaign's organisers can see it. There is no background tracking: nothing is recorded when you are not actively logging a sign, and closing the app records nothing at all.
The campaign that invited you controls this data and decides who in the campaign sees it. If you want your name and activity removed, ask your campaign first, since it is their account. If that goes nowhere, write to the address at the bottom of this page and it will be dealt with.
Leaderboards exist to make the work more enjoyable and to help organisers thank the people doing the most. If you would rather not appear on one, say so and your campaign can turn it off for you.
Terms of service
Your data is yours
Your campaign owns the records it puts into TGO SignManager. The software itself, its design and its source code remain the property of Damon Townsend and are licensed to you for use as a hosted service only.
Accounts
An account belongs to the campaign or committee that registered it. Keep credentials within your campaign, use the service lawfully, and do not attempt to reach another campaign's data or to disrupt the service.
Fees
TGO SignManager is billed per election cycle or annually, at the rate shown when you sign up. Access ends when a subscription expires; your data is retained through the retention period above so you can renew or export. Cancelling stops future charges. Fees for a period already begun are not refunded on a partial period unless the service failed to deliver what was promised, in which case ask and it will be handled fairly.
Availability
This is a small, independently operated service, monitored and backed up nightly, with no uptime guarantee. Election day is the worst possible time for a surprise, so export your placement data before any day you cannot afford to be without it.
Ending the arrangement
You may stop using the service at any time. The operator may suspend an account for non-payment or for use that damages the service or other users, with notice wherever notice is possible, and you will have a reasonable opportunity to export your records first.
Limits of liability
The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, liability for any claim arising from your use of it is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here attempts to exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington.
Sign codes and campaign law are yours
This software records where your signs are. It does not know, and does not tell you, whether a sign is lawfully placed.
Sign codes vary by city, county, and state, and cover placement, set-backs, rights of way, private property permission, size, and how soon signs must come down after an election. Campaign finance and disclosure rules are separate again. Complying with all of it is the campaign's responsibility, not the software's, and nothing shown in the application should be read as advice that a placement is permitted.
The pickup and close-out features exist to make removing signs on time easier. Using them is not evidence of compliance.
